Scholarship Preperation

Scholarships

Each year, private and independent schools offer academic and general scholarships. The process involves sitting a specific exam and often an interview, which can be challenging for students unfamiliar with the format and process. Understanding these challenges led to Brainworks creating their scholarship tutoring one-to-one program, customised and targeted to students' needs. They have now been helping students successfully prepare for scholarships for over twenty five years, establishing a trusted track record.

When to consider scholarships

Applying for a scholarship is a great approach to getting access to private education and helping to ease financial burden. Scholarships are few, and competition is strong; hence,  Brainworks can support your child to prepare for the exams with the program providing:

  • Mock exam and assessment
  • Customised modulated content targeted to their goals
  • One-to-one tutoring
  • Skill building to assimilate knowledge
  • Exam format and question preparation
  • Exam techniques, including time management
  • The content can be targeted to prepare for EduTest, AAS or ACER

Start preparing

Since most scholarship tests are set for early in the year, being ready throughout terms 3 and 4 of the prior year provides the best time window for adequate study and preparation. For example – seeking a scholarship for 2027? Your child will sit the exam in February or March of 2026 so start preparing in terms 3 and 4 of 2025. Some schools hold their tests even as early as July. Before you enrol with Brainworks to get ready for the test, it's best to investigate the colleges you are aiming for ahead of time. All set to begin?

Selective School Entry

Selective, SEAL and JMSS

For almost 25 years, Brainworks has been guiding students towards selective school entrance tests. The team is driven and uses one-to-one instruction, emphasising exam-related material to ensure students are ready and able to perform at their best. The content includes reading comprehension, mathematics and problem-solving, writing, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, abstract reasoning, humanities and science (for years 5 -10).

When to consider a selective school

These schools provide a results-focused environment. This setting allows students to surround themselves with peers of a similar academic standard, often motivating them to try harder and reach their full potential. Positions at these schools are limited, and competition is fierce due to the quality of education and academically rigorous content without the financial and social pressures of elite private schools. Brainworks can support your child to prepare for the exams with the program providing:

  • Mock exam and assessment
  • Customised modulated content targeted to their goals
  • One-to-one tutoring
  • Skill building to assimilate knowledge
  • Exam format and question preparation
  • Exam techniques, including time management

Start Preparing

The process to apply for a selective school requires an exam and possibly an interview. Proactivity is essential when preparing for selective school entry exams, and it should be started 1  year before the desired entry year. For example, if students wish to enter year 7, they should begin preparing in years 5 – 6. It's ideal to research the schools you are targeting in advance before you enrol with Brainworks to prepare for the exam. Ready to get started?
